Support Southern Mix Today

We need your help to build Southern Mix and to provide opportunities to students, faculty, and community members to hear and learn from the stories of Asian and Asian American residents across the South.

You can support the program in various ways.

  1. Student Internship Grants: these grants to UNC undergraduates will allow them to be summer interns at the Southern Oral History Program, where they will train in oral history methods and interview Asian and Asian American volunteers to grow the Southern Mix collection.

  2. Teaching Grants: these awards to UNC faculty provide incentive to create new courses (or revise existing courses) that focus on Asian American oral histories. Faculty and students will work with Southern Oral History Program staff to create assignments that grow the Southern Mix collection or use it in research.

  3. Growing Asian American Studies: these awards to UNC faculty, staff, and student organizations will support speakers, symposia, and research related to Asian American studies.

Gifts of $2,500 or less will help fund a one-time award in any of the three categories above. (You are welcome to indicate which you prefer.)

Larger gifts will help to endow these three forms of support to make them permanent. Our hope is to eventually fully fund all three awards with endowment funds so we can continue to grow Southern Mix and Asian American Studies at UNC into the future.
